About visas to Sweden
It is important to know the difference between applying for a visa to Sweden and applying for a Schengen visa. People who want to visit Sweden for less than 90 days and come from a country outside the EU usually need to apply for a visa.
Invitation for visa application
The Swedish Migration Agency requires that a person applying for a Schengen visa needs to have an invitation from the person they are visiting to attach to their application. If you want to invite family or friends to visit Sweden from abroad, you must fill in an invitation from the Migration Agency and it may need to be stamped by a Notary Public.
Here is the invitation form from the The Swedish Migration Agency
How can you get a visa to Sweden?
There are two options. You can:
- apply for a visa to Sweden directly, or
- apply for a Schengen visa.
A Schengen visa also allows you to visit other Schengen countries.
Which documents must be attached to the invitation for visa application?
In order for your invitation to be complete, you need to attach a copy of your ID, a population registration certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency called “Invitation” and which is no older than three months, and documentation showing your income and assets. The purpose is to show that you can provide for the person you have invited..
